The Year of Five Worlds · Volume 4

Eleven kilos too many. A child who needs refuge. And beneath the city, no ground.

ENTER THE STORY

Aeral and the limits of sanctuary

An admissions rule, a dwindling reserve, an overloaded platform: on Aeral, moral decisions have physical weight. Lio Ardan is trying to make refuge possible when Idris’s return reopens their shared past. Rescue becomes a fragile construction, held together by relationships as much as structures. And every agreement meant to support it may commit someone sleeping millions of kilometers away.

Inside The Weight of the Sky

On Aeral, cities float above an abyss of gas. Everything they carry counts. Lio Ardan controls admissions, and the weight of a child is enough to turn a safety rule into a decision about who gets to live.

When a city in distress emerges from the clouds, the emergency upends every balance. Among those caught in the crisis is Idris, the man Lio left. Their past returns as reserves, structures, and certainties begin to give way.

Taking in refugees requires resources and agreements. But commitments made in Aeral’s skies reach all the way to Iskar’s sleepers. Who will bear the cost of the rescue? And what is a refuge worth if it survives only by sacrificing people no one can see?

The Weight of the Sky brings together survival, the search for sanctuary, and the return of a former love in Orme’s airborne cities. Book Four of The Year of Five Worlds follows lives suspended from the choices that connect the planets.

How the five stories connect

A shipment held on Veyre is missed on another planet. Relief granted on Aeral commits lives on Iskar. An identity recovered on Nacre changes the meaning of a file elsewhere. The connections grow out of practical decisions, and no character can see all their consequences.

At the heart of these exchanges lies a question that runs through the year: who can consent on behalf of the absent? Behind medical care, wages, and rescues, commitments made for other people become pieces of a shared mystery.

Each novel follows its own characters and local conflict. Reading all five reveals the other sides of the same events. The book order, from Nacre to Iskar, follows the gradual disclosure of their connections.
