DISCOVER THE BOOK

When the evidence reaches into private life

Ambroise Ronceau calls Ysée. He has sent a card, holds traces that others want erased and refuses to say where he is. The conversation breaks off. When his letter arrives, the investigation spreads beyond the Maison des Bains.

In her working photographs, Ysée finds signs of a history carefully rewritten. Meanwhile, someone invents a past for her with Solal and words she has never written. The threat comes through her letterbox and uses her marriage to discredit what she is beginning to live.

Ysée wants to stop justifying herself. She also wants Solal to stay, without deciding on her behalf what would protect her. Yet danger awakens familiar ways of keeping silent, holding someone back and giving in to keep the peace.

They must untangle what has been done to the papers, the women and their memories, and refuse to let love become an admission of guilt.

A woman and a man stand at a ruby-lit window overlooking a city at night.

01

An expanding investigation

An interrupted call and a card from Ambroise Ronceau take Ysée beyond the Maison des Bains. Physical traces resist the stories others want them to tell.

02

The weight of false accounts

Photographs, letters and invented words bring the threat into Ysée’s home. Her marriage and relationship with Solal become tools for redirecting suspicion.

03

Love without taking control

Ysée wants Solal to stay without deciding what will protect her. Danger brings back old habits of silence, restraint and surrender.

The final movement of a story in two books

The mystery’s resolution is woven into the characters’ emotional changes. Documents must be separated from falsifications, just as care must be distinguished from control. This sequel carries forward the first book’s tensions and questions the right to choose a life when intimacy is turned into evidence.
